17th Annual Student Management Competition Preliminary Problem Statement for

Commercial Division Fall 2009

The project is a 39,000 square foot, three (3) story office building being built as a new corporate office for a national architectural firm.  This new facility will be located in a midtown development in an average size Midwestern city.  The architectural owner will require this construction, when completed, be able to achieve a LEED Gold Certification according to the USGBC.  The delivery method chosen for this project is CM at Risk. 

 

The building structure is masonry bearing, metal decking and steel joist with concrete topping.  The building envelope includes burnished block units, precast concrete, brick veneer, glazed curtain wall, punched window openings and metal panels.  Site utilities are all within 50 feet of the building structure.  Special features include controlling the amount of natural light penetration and raised access flooring.

 

Your proposal will include a construction schedule, construction budget, a safe production plan, a site orientation plan for site construction management for material deliveries and SWPPP, a quality control plan and a project organizational chart indicating all key staff required for this project.  Please keep in mind your owner is a very well respected architectural firm with a critical eye for details and is also very budget minded.
